The
studio’s built, the number of visitors is growing, and now
there’s a new title to add
. I’ve just been appointed
the country’s first professional Artist
in Residence on a heritage railway. This means I’ll expand my work painting
the ever-changing trains and scenery as well as commemorating special
steam visitors and railway anniversaries.
I’ll also play a greater part in the railway’s educational
roles. In addition to offering artists individual lessons,
I’m
welcoming small groups to the studio to learn about the railway
and watercolour painting.I also offer advice to fellow painters
on goods walks and viewpoints for painting locations.
My home station, Levisham, has been designated “The Painters’ Station” by
the railway to make it a focal point for painters and art-lovers
alike.
It’s a development that’s already landed me on BBC
TV as well as in most of the local papers! [video

Our
station advertising campaign 'Come to Levisham... ...a real picture'
is drawing people to the station, the peace and quiet and the
easy parking for the railway, as
well
as coming to see my paintings. With trains now often running as
far as Whitby I'm finding a new source of visitors. Even so, the
station is as calm and peaceful as ever. With volunteers staffing
the teahut every weekend, and hot and cold drink machines available
during the week, you can be sure of a warm welcome.
I'm open between 10.00 and 18.00 everyday, and I'm usually here
open and painting even when the trains are not running. If you
want to make sure, please feel free to ring first on 01751 470112
or just drop in. Do come and say hello even if you are not buying
a picture. I look forward to meeting you.
